Henna tattoos can be very harmful

|

The non-permanent henna tattoos containing parafenildiammina can cause severe skin reactions on contact and cross-sensitization. The Department of Evaluation of Cosmetic Products French points out that, since January 2004 have been notified AFSSAPS, the French agency of the drug, many cases of contact eczema delayed, secondary application of a non-permanent henna tattoo. This type of tattoo is considered a cosmetic product and consists of a preparation of henna often added with PPD, an ingredient that gives it a dark color (black) to the tattoo and allows him to stay longer on the skin. PPD is a drug of limited use in cosmetic products , which can only be used in hair dyes at a given concentration.
Given the success of this type of tattoo, the appearance of cases of contact eczema is then, according to the Afssaps, a public health problem, also as a consequence of the fact that occurs often a sensitization to PPD with unpleasant consequences on life daily and / or professional people affected by it. In fact, the PPD can cause severe allergic reactions, which may also require urgent medical attention and even hospitalization. You can also establish a cross-sensitization and, sometimes, people are forced to change profession. L 'Afssaps racomanda to undertake information campaigns on the risks and consequences that can meet the population groups most at risk, such as children, adolescents and adults at a young age. This will be used travel agencies, consumer groups and magazines.
The issue was brought to the attention of the Council of Europe and is still being studied.
